Sustainability Policy

Introduction

This counselling practice is committed to working in a way that is mindful of environmental impact and supportive of long-term sustainability.

While recognising that this is a small, independent practice, I believe that thoughtful, everyday choices can contribute to wider environmental responsibility and care for future generations.

Environmental Responsibility

I aim to reduce environmental impact wherever reasonably possible by:

  • Minimising paper use and prioritising digital records and communication
  • Using electronic billing, forms, and documentation where appropriate
  • Avoiding unnecessary printing and waste
  • Recycling materials wherever facilities allow

These practices are reviewed regularly and adapted as the practice evolves.

Use of Resources

Efforts are made to use resources responsibly, including:

  • Conscious use of energy (lighting, heating, and equipment)
  • Using energy-efficient devices where possible
  • Turning off equipment when not in use

Remote and Online Working

Where appropriate, online counselling is offered as an alternative to in-person sessions.

This can:

  • Reduce travel-related environmental impact
  • Increase accessibility for some clients
  • The suitability of online work is always considered in relation to your needs and the effectiveness of the therapeutic work.

Ethical & Sustainable Practice Values

Sustainability is understood not only in environmental terms, but also in relation to:

  • Ethical and responsible working practices
  • Emotional sustainability and practitioner wellbeing
  • Creating a practice that is thoughtful, balanced, and sustainable over time

This approach supports consistency, reliability, and care within the therapeutic relationship.

Ongoing Reflection

As a reflective practitioner, I remain open to learning and adapting how this practice operates in response to developing understanding around sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Review of This Policy

This Sustainability Policy is reviewed periodically to ensure it remains realistic, relevant, and aligned with the values of the practice.
